WHO ARE ‘TRAINING PEOPLE’ ?
Training People is an agency providing top quality training in fundraising
and personal development to not for profit agencies, voluntary groups and
commercial organisations throughout Ireland, the UK and further afield.
All Training People courses take into account the specific circumstances
and legislation pertaining to fundraising and professional development within
the country or area in which they are delivered be that Ireland, the UK or
further afield.
ALICE GARRAD has 15 years of fundraising and management experience in the
voluntary sector on both sides of the Irish Sea. With a background in marketing
in the corporate sector, Alice joined Save the Children’s UK Fundraising
team in 1987 and went on to lead a team raising £5.5 million per year from companies. She then pioneered Save
the Children’s first ‘Big Gift’ fundraising campaign to
mark the charity’s 75th Birthday.
Alice Garrad established her own fundraising and management consultancy
in 1995. Consultancy services range from the development and implementation
of fund-raising strategies, to feasibility studies for one off appeals and
designing and running tailor-made training courses. Alice has lived and worked
in Ireland for 7 years and her clients (both UK and Ireland based) include
the Samaritans, Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke Association, Concern,
Barnardo’s, Help the Hospices and Sightsavers.
TREVOR GILL has worked in the UK and Northern Ireland voluntary sector for
20 years. He has an undergraduate degree in Education and a Masters degree
in Marketing. He managed the fundraising work of the well known UK homelessness
charity ‘Crisis’ before working for 10 years as the Senior Fundraising
Manager of a Northern Ireland mental health charity consortium.
Trevor Gill established his own fundraising and management consultancy
in 1997. Since then Trevor has been highly successful in assisting
local groups to secure major grant aid from trusts and foundations,
lottery sources,
government agencies and Europe and in assisting charities to establish
and implement effective public relations strategies. Current or recent
clients include the Council for the Homeless NI, Lloyd’s TSB Foundation,
the Methodist Church in Ireland, the NI Association for Mental Health, the
Scout Association (NI Scout Council), the Simon Community NI and Jersey Zoo,
Channel Islands.
THE TRAINING PEOPLE APPROACH
Both Alice Garrad and Trevor Gill are experienced trainers with a track
record in successful fundraising and consultancy. The Training People aim
is to equip participants with the practical skills necessary to improve their
fundraising and professional practice. All Training People sessions are delivered
in workshop style and are highly participative - this includes small group
work, brainstorming, and time for questions and discussion. Training People
aim to create a training environment where all those attending feel able
to participate equally and where questioning, debate and ‘good ideas’ are
actively encouraged.
In addition to courses led by Alice and Trevor, Training People employ
the services of a other locally based expert trainers to assist in
the leading of courses.
